Shopify is always evolving, with new features and updates rolling out regularly to help retailers stay ahead—but keeping up shouldn't be a chore. That's why this hub tracks every POS update and relevant Shopify changes in one place.
Every two weeks, Shopify releases an updated POS version and this post is refreshed to highlight what's new. If you have multiple retail locations, it's best practice to use an MDM (Mobile Device Management) to manage app versions, and to test each new release on a few devices before rolling it out to all stores. Check connectivity status from POS Home

What changed: Connectivity status has moved from the POS side navigation to POS Home. Staff can see it as a status icon and open a popover for more detail without digging through menus.
Why it matters: When internet or device connectivity is uncertain, staff need a quick answer before starting checkout. Putting the status on POS Home helps teams troubleshoot sooner and avoid surprises during a sale.
Access: Automatically available in POS v11.14. No action required; all staff will have access.
Scan and search with multiple barcodes

What changed: Shopify POS can identify a product variant using any associated barcode. Staff can scan or search using the code they have on hand and still find the correct variant in POS.
Why it matters: This helps retailers that receive products labeled differently by supplier, channel, or packaging format. Staff spend less time on manual lookup and can find the right item faster.
Access: Automatically available in POS v11.14. Before staff can use them in POS, associate the barcodes with products in Shopify admin.

See abandoned online carts in POS

What changed: Authorized staff can view items from an identified customer's abandoned online checkout in Shopify POS. This shows checkout items associated with the customer, not their browsing history.
Why it matters: Staff get more context when helping a known customer in store. They can discuss products the customer already considered online and help continue the purchase in person.
Access: Available in POS v11.14 and permission-gated. Enable View abandoned checkouts in Shopify admin under Settings > Roles > Permissions > Customers. The customer must be identified, have an email address, have an eligible abandoned checkout, and the POS session must have location context.

Apply scanned gift cards automatically
What changed: Valid gift cards are now applied automatically when staff scan them at checkout. This works with the in-app camera and supported first-party hardware scanners. Manually entered gift cards still use the Redeem button.
Why it matters: This removes an extra checkout step and reduces the chance that staff miss the additional tap to redeem a scanned gift card.
Access: Automatically available in POS v11.14. No action required. Auto-apply works only for scanned gift cards and still depends on the gift card being valid and redeemable.
